Many children and adults with migraine are sensitive to light when they have an attack - something which is called photophobia - and it can stop people with migraine doing lots of the normal daily things. Some have to go to bed in the dark when they have an attack because the light makes the pain very bad.
Some new research which has just been published - conducted by scientists at Harvard University - has found a new 'pathway' (physical process) that underlies sensitivity to light during migraine.
The discovery of this new pathway provides scientists with a new area to conduct further research in which it is hoped might one day help us to discover new ways to stop or manage this symptom which many people find very upsetting.
