Some of you may not like taking too much medication and may want to try complementary or alternative medicines (CAM).
There are many different types of therapies available to help control your headache and migraine. Your doctor's surgery may be able to give you more information on the following:
Acupuncture: where small needles are put in various parts of your body to help get rid of your migraine pain. Don't worry - the needles shouldn't hurt!
The Bowen Technique: a very gentle therapy where someone 'rolls' their hands on you with very light touches. The rolls are meant to relax your muscles.
Homeopathy: this is a special kind of medicine which is different from the sort you get from your doctor. You usually have to take very small tablets which you have to put under your tongue to melt instead of swallowing them.
Osteopathy: gently moving the bones in your head can help to relax your muscles.
Reflexology: a gentle massage of the feet. It is believed that certain areas of the feet relate to certain organs in the body.
Relaxation: to help you to learn how to cope with stress. This might be physical exercises to get rid of any stiffness or tension in your body or helping you to deal with things that are worrying you.
Yoga: this is another way to relax by doing different exercises to help you to control your body and mind.
You / your parent or carer will normally have to pay for this kind of treatment. It is important to check that the person treating you is qualified and has treated children with migraine before.
