What does it feel like to have a migraine?

Your headache may be in the middle of your forehead or behind your eyes. When you are moving about it will usually make your headache feel worse. You may feel like you want to sit or lie down in a dark quiet place because light or noise may make your head hurt more.

The pain doesn't always last long; for some it may only last up to half an hour and for others a few days.

"My tummy has a headache"

Sometimes you may get a very mild headache but have other symptoms which may make you feel ill; pains in your stomach and feeling sick, which can make you feel like your tummy has a headache. This is called abdominal migraine. Sometimes you may also feel car sick or when you are moving about in different directions. This is also quite common if you suffer with migraine.

"I really want to eat sweet things"

Migraine can be very sneaky and can creep up on you at any time. You may feel fine one minute and a few minutes later feel like somebody is banging a drum inside your head.

Some may get signs that tell you a migraine is going to start. (warning signs).

  • wanting lots of sweet foods
  • feeling very tired
  • having strange feelings
  • looking pale
  • having dark eyes
  • feeling dizzy and confused
  • being clumsy
  • having aches and pains
