I started having migraines when I was 2. I was later diagnosed when I was 3 years of age. Until I was 7 or 8 I just had Calpol as the migraines were not frequent (about once a month). I then began taking Disprol For Kids before visiting the hospital for my first appointment because I was getting them about once a week and sometimes more often. I have visited now and then ever since and have been prescribed preventatives such as pizotifen, propanalol (twice) and topiramate. All have had little, none or in the last case, even negative effects! For attacks I was first told to try Nurofen For Kids which was not great and moved to my current remedy, sumatriptan, which helps some of time.
Today I was told I was going to have an MRI scan later this year. You should not feel scared if you hear this said to you. They just want to see a picture of your brain and the scan will do this. I am going to see an eye doctor to see a picture of behind my left eye. They will see what the results tell them.
My migraine starts off as a sharp pain before scaling down to a numb ache. At the very latest I have taken the tablet by then. Often, I vomit early and the tablet of course, will then have no effect whatsoever. The pain worsens quickly over my left eye. My pain is always over my left eye. I may have the pain for up to an hour (although I had the pain for four hours in a migraine on my holiday!) before going to sleep. I usually sleep for about 2 hours before waking up and having an aching head. Sometimes it comes back, sometimes it doesn't. If it does come back the pain is short, less severe and a final sleep takes it fully off. I feel hazy and tired for the rest of the day.
Migraines have disrupted some days out that I have had but not all. I have had two trips to the new Wembley to watch football and had a migraine on both!
Although I am quite sporty they do not disrupt my tennis training much.
